‘Identity Changing in America’ talk May 3

4:38 p.m., April 26, 2005--“How We Talk (or Don’t Talk) About Race: Identity Changing in America,” a lecture by author and performance artist David Mura, is set for 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, in 115 Purnell Hall.

Part of the programming for Asian Heritage Month, Mura’s lecture will explore the role race plays in American culture and will examine the origin of stereotypes.

Mura, who is a poet, creative nonfiction writer, critic, playwright and performance artist, focuses much of his material on issues of diversity and multiculturalism. He has been published in The New York Times and other prestigious publications, has served as the artistic director of the Asian American Renaissance and also is an artist associate at the Pangea World Theater.

The free event, which is cosponsored by the Asian Heritage Council, the Asian American Pacific Islander Caucus, the Department of English, the Office of Residence Life and the Department of Theatre, is open to the public. For more information, call (302) 831-2991.
