Newark marks Memorial Day May 15 1:35 p.m., May 12, 2005--The memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice will be honored by the city of Newark with a parade, a memorial ceremony and Civil War re-enactment from Friday-Sunday, May 13-15. The 61st New York Regiment will set up a Civil War camp Friday evening, May 13, through Sunday morning, May 15, at White Clay Creek State Park. Park entrance fees will be in effect. The Newark Armed Forces ceremonies and parade will begin at 1 p.m., Sunday, on The Green at UD with a full military ceremony, including massing the colors, reviewing of troops by state officials and a rifle salute by members of the armed forces in honor of fallen comrades. This years parade, which is dedicated to the Delaware National Guard and to the parades 70th anniversary, begins at 2 p.m. The parade will travel east on Main Street from South College Avenue to Chapel Street, go a block south to Delaware Avenue and then proceed west to Academy Street, where it will end. Parade participants will include historic military, active duty, reserve ROTC, Jr. ROTC and veterans units. Also participating will be community groups and organizations.
