April lectures mark Math Awareness Month To highlight the wide variety of mathematical tools that are needed for actual exploration of the space around us, the Department of Mathematical Sciences is hosting Math and the Cosmos, a series of lectures during April to celebrate Math Awareness Month at UD. The lectures, which are free and open to the public, are especially planned for a general audience.
Refreshments will be served after all lectures in 436 Ewing Hall. Mathematical Awareness Month, which began in 1986, is sponsored by the Joint Policy Board for Mathematics to recognize the importance of mathematics through a series of articles and an accompanying poster highlighting mathematical developments and applications in a particular area each year. The Joint Policy Board for Mathematics is a collaborative effort of the American Mathematical Society, the American Statistical Association, the Mathematical Association of America and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
