Journalism alumni Homecoming event

9:25 a.m., Sept. 23, 2005--The Journalism Program and English department are inviting their alumni back to campus for the second annual UD Journalism Homecoming event at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7, in 103 Gore Hall.

The event will feature a panel discussion, “What’s Up With Online?,” with seven Journalism Program alumni. The event is free and open to the public.

Ben Yagoda, professor of English and journalism, has to put together a panel of journalists who work in online publishing. “We’re hoping for a big turnout from alumni and students,” Yagoda said.

The event was launched last year to create a sense of community among UD journalism alumni. Gary Smith, writer for Sports Illustrated and native Delawarean, was last year’s guest speaker.

This year’s panel includes:

  • Larry Dignan, Class of 1992, news editor of Baseline, a Ziff Davis magazine that covers information technology;
  • Tara Finnegan Coates, Class of 1992, a sports editor for [Baltimoresun.com];
  • Mike Regan, Class of 1994, a staff writer for the Associated Press with experience in online journalism;
  • Rob Wherry, Class of 1995, staff writer for Smart Money magazine;
  • Chuck Creekmur, Class of 1995, the co-CEO of [AllHipHop.com] and senior music news producer for [BET.com];
  • Tracy Largay, Class of 1995, senior project manager at WebMD Health [www.webmd.com]; and
  • Ryan Cormier, Class of 2000, staff reporter for the Wilmington News Journal.

There will be a reception after the panel discussion.
