Journalism alums career panel set April 22

11:41 a.m., April 19, 2005--An alumni career panel discussion for students majoring in English with a concentration in journalism, including those graduating this spring, will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, April 22, in 127 Memorial Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Panel members will talk about their careers and how they landed their present jobs.

Participants include:

  • Michael Bederka (2000), associate editor of Advance, a magazine covering the respiratory and sleep fields;
  • Susan Kirkwood (2002), associate news producer at Fox affiliate WBBF in Baltimore;
  • Heather Moore (1996), opinion editor of Nytimes.com, where she manages the production and promotion of editorials and op-ed pieces, The Week In Review and readers’ opinion sections;
  • Seandra Sims (1996), senior marketing, communications and media specialist at United Way of Delaware and staff writer for allhiphop.com;
  • Mellisa Tyrell (1995), a reporter for the News Journal; and
  • William Werde (1997), associate editor for Rolling Stone magazine, where he covers tech news and the music industry.

A reception will be held following the discussion.
