‘Iraq Update: Getting at the Truth’ at UD Nov. 14

Gen. Vincent Brooks, chief of public affairs in the U.S. Army
2:10 p.m., Oct. 24, 2005--Gen. Vincent Brooks, chief of public affairs in the U.S. Army, and Jamie McIntyre, CNN Pentagon correspondent, will give a talk, “Iraq Update: Getting at the Truth--Military & Media,” at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 14, in Mitchell Hall.

Brooks became well-known as the “face” of the U.S. Army during the invasion and occupation of Iraq in 2003. He spoke frequently from the U.S. military headquarters in Doha, Qatar.

McIntyre has covered military affairs for CNN and CNN International for 13 years. He has earned a reputation as one of the most experienced and respected reporters assigned to the Pentagon. His reporting stints include covering U.S. military missions in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Haiti, Iraq, Kosovo, Rwanda and Somalia.

Working out of CNN's office inside the Pentagon, McIntyre finds most of his stories by roaming the building's 17.5 miles of corridors, drawing on his network of extensive sources to add perspective and context to the Pentagon's official pronouncements.

Jamie McIntyre, CNN Pentagon correspondent, reports from Afghanistan.
The talk is part of UD’s "America and the Global Community Initiative," organized by Ralph Begleiter, UD’s Rosenberg Professor of Communication and distinguished journalist in residence.

Begleiter teaches courses in communication, political science and journalism at the University of Delaware. He joined the faculty in July 1999, bringing with him more than 30 years of broadcast journalism experience. He holds an honors bachelor’s degree in political science from Brown University, a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
