Have a heartjoin UDs Heart Walk team With less than a month to go, UDs American Heart Walk team organizers are urging students and employees to sign up for the Sunday, Sept. 11, walk on the Riverfront in Wilmington to help raise money for education and research into fighting heart disease, the nation's leading cause of death. The University strongly supports this important cause, Marianne Carter, UD Employee Wellness Center director and Walk coordinator, said. More than 4,000 people participated in last fall’s Heart Walk in Wilmington. UD’s team consisted of 140 students, staff, alumni and friends as the University turned in its best performance ever, raising more than $14,000 to help support the American Heart Association, Carter said. "This is an extremely worthwhile cause. We're hoping for another record-breaking year, and we encourage the UD community to join the UD-AHA team or lend their financial support," Carter said. Walkers collect pledges for the American Heart Association. There are 14 UD team captains who recruit walkers and collect pledge envelopes they turn into the registration table on the day of the walk leaving walkers to enjoy the music, food, health information, YouDee and Baby Blue. Walkers also can earn prizes based on how much money they raise. All UD walkers receive a free UD Heart Walk T-shirt to wear to the event.
