UD’s Heart Walk team seeks "a few good soles"

2:25 p.m., July 6, 2005--UD staff, students, alumni, retirees and friends are invited to participate in this year’s American Heart Walk, scheduled Sunday, Sept. 11, on the Riverfront in Wilmington.

UD is one of 50 local organizations sending teams on the 3.1-mile walk to raise funds for heart disease research and education.

"Last year UD had a very large presence at the walk,” Richie Holland, UD Human Resources manager and co-coordinator of this year’s UD team, said. “It was exciting to see so many UD community members lend their support to this important cause. Our goal is to exceed last year's participation. Because heart disease is this country's leading cause of death and disability, we have to do everything we can.”

Holland explained that each walker solicits donations that are donated to the American Heart Association (AHA) for research. Recent advances such as automated external defibrillators, high-technology surgical techniques, clot-removing drugs and CPR training are the result of research funded by the AHA.

Heart Captains recruit the UD teams and distribute materials.
