13 faculty awarded instructional grants

11:47 a.m., April 7, 2005--UD’s Instructional Grants Program for instructional and course redesign has awarded grants to the following faculty members for 2005-06:

Deborah Andrews, professor, and Rebecca Worley, assistant professor, both English, for “Service-learning Projects for Professional Communication Courses,” $8,424;

Kalmia Kniel and Cathy Davies, assistant professors of animal and food sciences, for “Teaching Ethics throughout the Food Science Curriculum,” $13,370;

Nancy Lavigne and Elizabeth Pemberton, assistant professors, and Roberta Golinkoff, H. Rodney Sharp Professor of Educational Studies, all School of Education, for “In-service Learning in Elementary Teacher Education,” $12,227;

Barbara Lutz, instructor, Christoper Penna, associate professor, both University Writing Center, and David Coker, assistant professor of education, for “Course Design for Advanced Composition with Technology-Enhanced Tutor Outreach,” $15,025;

Cynthia Paris and Lynn Worden, assistant professors, individual and family studies, for "Moving Field Experiences to Service-learning Opportunities," $19,219; and

Matthew J. Robinson, associate professor, health, nutrition and exercise sciences, for “Enhancement of Instruction in Theoretical and Applied Ethics in Sport Management,” $19,763.

The grants program accommodates both instructional enhancement and course redesign requests for undergraduate courses. The program is coordinated by the Center for Teaching Effectiveness (CTE), the General Education Initiative (GEI) and Information Technologies (IT). The grant focus is on the GEI goals of ethics, cultural diversity and service learning.

Members of the final review committee for 2005 were Martha Carothers, associate director, and John Courtright, director, both of the Office of Undergraduate Studies; Leila Lyons, director of IT-User Services; and Harry Shipman, Annie Jump Cannon Professor of Astronomy and chairperson of the GEI committee.
