Instructional grant pre-proposals due Oct. 30

9:16 a.m., Sept. 15, 2005--The Center for Teaching Effectiveness (CTE), General Education Initiative (GEI) and Information Technologies (IT) announce the grant program for undergraduate instructional and course design. Two grant preparation sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 28, and Tuesday, Oct. 4.

Grants range from $2,000-$20,000, and recipients will be announced in February.

Projects designed to advance three General Education Goals--capstone courses, service-learning, and critical thinking--are the focus of the instructional grants. Faculty with project ideas pertaining to one of the seven remaining General Education Goals also are invited to submit a pre-proposal [www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/]. Faculty are encouraged to incorporate technology, multimedia or a different learning method into a project idea.

The application process begins with a pre-proposal. The pre-proposal template can be found online at [www.udel.edu/present/grant/]. If the pre-proposal is selected, a full proposal will be required. All requests are evaluated by a committee appointed by the provost.

The grant timeline is as follows:

  • Grant preparation sessions: Sept. 28 and Oct. 4;
  • Pre-proposal due: Oct. 30;
  • Pre-proposals returned: Nov. 18;
  • Final proposal due: Jan. 22; and
  • Grant recipients announced: Feb. 10.

Applicants can find examples of projects funded in the past and read profiles of faculty who received funding at [www.udel.edu/cte/grants.htm] or [www.udel.edu/present/profiles/].

CTE, GEI and IT are offering grant preparation sessions explaining the process in detail, clarifying the criteria used to select proposals and providing assistance with project planning. Faculty who are experienced in the application of these General Education Goals will participate to help refine project ideas.

The sessions are scheduled for 2:30-4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28, Perkins Student Center, Ewing Room, and 2:30 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Trabant University Center, Multipurpose Room A.
