Grade inflation hearing set March 9

9:50 a.m., March 8, 2005--UD's Faculty Senate ad hoc committee on grade inflation has announced a third open hearing to be held from 4-5:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, in 140 Smith Hall.

All members of the University community are invited to attend to make suggestions on how to control the increase in high grades.

Last year, the ad hoc Committee on Grade Inflation reported that the increase in the number of high grades at the University over the past 15 years could not be accounted for by the improved academic quality of students or improved instruction. Visit [www.udel.edu/facsen/reports/index.html] for the full report.

The Faculty Senate agreed with the findings and has charged the committee with making recommendations to reduce the trend of grade inflation at the University.

For those who cannot attend the open hearings, an online method for faculty to make comments about curbing grade inflation will soon be available. For more information, e-mail [dlehman@udel.edu].
