TA conference set for Aug. 22 1:22 p.m., Aug. 2, 2005--Graduate students teaching at UD for the first time are invited to attend UDs annual conference for graduate teaching assistants (TAs) Monday-Wednesday, Aug. 22-24, at the Trabant University Center and Gore Hall. Registration begins at 8 a.m. in Trabant. The conference is part of a series of orientations for new graduate students and is co-sponsored by Graduate Studies, the Graduate Student Senate and the Center for Teaching Effectiveness. The conference is designed to meet the needs of newly appointed TAs. It will provide an overview of instructional roles and responsibilities, helpful information and resources and effective teaching practices, while allowing TAs to interact with colleagues. Senior TA fellows and faculty and staff from departments across the University will lead the sessions. Because the conference is multifaceted, departments are urged to advise their TAs as to the sessions that are most pertinent to the coursework they will teach. Departments will engage their TAs in discipline-specific training activities and there will be sessions on teaching resources at UD including the library system, web publishing and WebCT.
