Summer challenge promotes employee fitness 1:59 p.m., June 3, 2005--All UD employees are invited to register now for "Fairway to Fitness," a six-week summer fitness program sponsored by the Employee Wellness Center and scheduled from July 10-Aug. 20. Cost is 10 Wellness dollars. Participants will receive a log to track the number of minutes of aerobic exercise they do each week, with each person selecting his or her own individual goal. "Our programs are designed to motivate all employees, regardless of their fitness level," Linda Smith. program coordinator, said. "This summer, we'll be using a golf theme to motivate participants to meet their fitness goals. Employees may choose from any number of aerobic activities to earn holes as they golf an imaginary course." No knowledge of golf is needed to participate. "We all know that we need to increase our level of physical activity, but oftentimes other things get in the way, Marianne Carter, director of the Employee Wellness Center, said. Registering for this type of program provides participants with the structure and push they need to stay focused and be consistent." All finishers who meet their goals receive an incentive prize of a zippered drink cooler and a chance to win the grand prize drawing--a $50 gift certificate for dinner for two at the Hartefeld National Golf Course in Avondale, PA. Employees may use their 2005-06 Wellness dollars to register online at [www.udel.edu/wellness] or call (302) 831-8388. Registration ends July 5. Those who register before June 15 will be entered in a drawing for The New Mayo Clinic Cookbook, a full-color, hardback book with more than 150 healthy recipes.
