Talk on crime fiction set Sept. 28

4:10 p.m., Sept. 26, 2005--Crime fiction writer Stephen Knight, professor of English at the University of Wales, Cardiff, will speak at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28, in 127 Memorial Hall. His lecture, “Quoth the Raven More than People Realize: The American Contribution to Crime Fiction in the 19th Century,” and a reception afterwards are sponsored by UD’s English department.

Knight, a crime fiction reviewer, has edited several collections of mystery stories. On crime fiction, he has published Form and Ideology in Crime Fiction (1980), Continent of Mystery: A Thematic History of Australian Crime Fiction (1997), The Art of Murder (1998) and Crime Fiction, 1800-2000: Detection, Death, Diversity (2004).

His publications include studies of medieval literature and language and Australian and Welsh literature from the 18th Century to the present. He currently is writing Arthur, The Phantom King to appear in 2006.

Knight has taught at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and at De Montfort University in England and has served as a visiting professor at universities in the U.S., England, Chile, Germany and France.
