Faculty Senate approves department name change 10:17 a.m., March 14, 2005--A new major, a new minor and a new department name were among the items approved by the University Faculty Senate on Monday, March 7. Formerly a concentration within the Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences, the new major in sport management was established on a provisional basis, subject to review in five years. The senators also approved a new minor in coastal and marine geoscience within the Department of Geology to allow students interested in this area to focus their studies and identify their expertise more clearly for employment and postgraduate studies. A resolution extending the provisional status of a Ph.D program in entomology and applied ecology by three years was approved by the senators. The program will be reviewed for permanent status during the 2007-08 academic year. The senates consent agenda, which typically includes revisions of majors and minors and certain degree requirements, included a departmental name change, making the Department of Consumer Studies the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies. The name change was among the 38 items that passed without discussion. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
