Theatre group to premiere original play about life at UD

11:49 a.m., March 9, 2005--E-52 Student Theatre will premiere Darrell Louder’s The Ice House, an original comedy about life at the University of Delaware, at 8 p.m., Friday, March 11, in Pearson Hall auditorium.

Additional performances are scheduled at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 12, and Thursday and Friday, March 17 and 18; at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 13; and at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 19, all in Pearson Hall.

According to its producers, The Ice House is a comedy that is willing to laugh at itself, at the theatre establishment and at the ridiculousness of college life. Louder’s script features clever dialogue and is packed with zany characters and surprises. The cast and creative team feature the same individuals who recently presented Noises Off, Rumors and The Foreigner on the UD campus.

The setting for the play is the fictitious Ice House Bar on Main Street in Newark. After more than two centuries of business, the Ice House has closed, but the bar manager decides to open up for one more night in hopes of saving the bar. But, there’s a catch: All the beer has been stolen. With the help of a waitress, a bartender and his girlfriend, he is able to lure a collection of eccentric college characters into the bar. Combining romance, violence and sexuality, The Ice House confronts clichés about college life in a way that is designed to leave audiences laughing.

The Ice House basically incorporates everything I’ve ever wanted to see done in a comedy,” co-director Marc Silverberg said. “It incorporates so many types of humor that no matter what a person’s taste, that person will find something to laugh at—a lot.”

Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults. For more information, call Todd Blass at (516) 318-2292.
