Water resources internship deadline Oct. 7

Senior Carolyn Schnek, a DWRC intern, is studying effect of poultry feed amendments on water quality.
5:30 p.m., Sept. 13, 2005--The Delaware Water Resources Center (DWRC) at UD has announced the first-ever fall application period for its undergraduate water resources internship program, which has supported more than 50 UD undergraduate student research projects since 2000. Students in the program may earn up to $3,500 paid as hours worked through Feb. 28, 2006. Deadline for applications for fall 2005-06 internships is Friday, Oct. 7.

Interns must submit a written report on their projects by March 31 and also participate in a poster session at an undergraduate research conference in the spring.

With the exception of current freshmen (Class of 2009) or those graduating in fall 2005 or winter 2006, the internship program is open to undergraduate students at any institution of higher learning in the state of Delaware.

Students must have the active support of a faculty adviser and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Academic credit also is possible, but must be coordinated with the student’s faculty adviser.

Internship sponsors include the UD colleges of Arts and Sciences, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Engineering, Marine Studies, and the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, the Delaware Geological Survey, the Institute for Soil and Environmental Quality and the Institute for Public Administration Water Resources Agency.

For more information, including details on current and past projects and current faculty advisers and application forms, as well as report and poster requirements, visit [http://ag.udel.edu/dwrc/jobs.html], e-mail [aboyd@udel.edu] or call (302)738-6779.
