‘Daughters of the Dust’ to be shown April 28

2:17 p.m., April 27, 2005--Daughters of the Dust will be screened from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, April 28, in 103 Gore Hall. A 1992 film by Julie Dash, a New York City-based producer, writer and director, Daughters of the Dust addresses issues of relocation, passage and resistance within the context of Gullah, an Americanized West African people in danger of losing their identity.

Admission is free, and the film is open to the public. After the screening, a reception will be held for the filmmaker in Mechanical Hall.

The film is being shown in conjunction with a series of events presented during April that complement UD’s Paul R. Jones Collection exhibit, “A Century of African American Art,” which runs through June 1 in Mechanical Hall and Old College galleries. The programming is made possible by a grant from the Unidel Foundation. For more information about the film, call (302) 831-4075.
