Viola-piano duo concert set Saturday

5:13 p.m., Sept. 14, 2005--UD’s Department of Music presents guest artists from the University of Memphis--Lenny Schranze, viola, and John Peterson, piano—in concert at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.

Admission is $10, adults; $7, seniors; $3, students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Trabant or Bob Carpenter box offices on the UD campus.

The program will feature:

  • “Three Songs, Three Sonatas of Johannes Brahms”;
  • Ständchen, Opus 106, #1;
  • Sonata for Viola and Piano, Opus 120, #2;
  • Immer leiser wird mein Schlummer, Opus 105, #2;
  • Sonata for Viola and Piano, Opus 120, #1;
  • Nachklang, Opus 59, #4; and
  • Sonata for Viola and Piano, Opus 78.
Lenny Schranze
A native of Philadelphia, Schranze graduated from the Eastman School of Music and the New England Conservatory. He is a former faculty member at Furman University, the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts, and the Fine Arts Center in Greenville, S.C., where he won an award from Chamber Music America for “excellence in chamber music instruction.”

As a chamber musician, Schranze has performed in concert halls around the country, including Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in New York City, and has performed internationally in Switzerland, and Brazil. His recordings include the works for viola and piano by Robert Schumann. Reviews describe Lenny’s viola playing as “passionate and beautifully resonant

Peterson is professor of music and associate director for graduate studies in the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis. An accomplished pianist as well as an organist, he is active as a vocal accompanist and chamber pianist, and he is a published composer.
