Talks on diversity by Yale law prof Thursday

2:39 p.m., Sept. 27, 2005--The Legal Studies Program and UD’s chapter of American Association of University Professors will present two lectures by Peter H. Schuck, Simeon E. Baldwin Professor of Law at Yale Law School, Thursday, Sept. 29. The Faculty Senate Committee on Cultural Activities and Public Events cosponsors the lectures.

At the first lecture for UD faculty, from noon-1:30 p.m., in Multipurpose Room C of the Trabant University Center, Schuck will discuss his 2005 book, Meditations of a Militant Moderate: Cool Views on Hot Topics. Faculty should bring their own lunch. Beverages and dessert will be provided.

From 3-4:30 p.m., the entire UD community is invited to attend Schuck’s lecture in Multipurpose Room A of the Trabant University Center. He will discuss his 2003 book, Diversity in America: Keeping Government at a Safe Distance. Refreshments will be provided.

Schuck also is the author of The Limits of Law: Essays on Democratic Governance, as well as Citizenship Without Consent: Illegal Aliens in the American Polity (with R. Smith). His essays and commentaries have appeared in The American Lawyer, The New Republic, The Chronicle of Higher Education and Political Science Quarterly.

Schuck earned his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, a master’s degree from Harvard University and doctorate from Harvard Law School.
