Meetings on state disability insurance changes

11:24 a.m., Oct. 10, 2005--UD’s Office of Human Resources advises staff who participate in the State Employees’ Pension Plan that effective Jan. 1, 2006, the Pension Plan will implement a short-term and long-term disability insurance program that, for many participants, will replace the current disability pension benefits.

During the week of Oct. 10, participants will receive a letter from the State Office of Management and Budget outlining the benefits of each option. Individuals who are vested in the plan, i.e., have five or more years of credited pension service, will be offered a one-time choice between the new plan and the current plan. Nonvested and future participants will automatically be enrolled in the new plan. Individuals will have until Dec. 15, 2005, to make a decision.

State of Delaware representatives will conduct employee information meetings in early November. Meetings will be held at the University of Delaware main campus, Delaware Technical & Community College (Owens, Stanton and Terry campuses) and the Carvel State Office Building in Wilmington.

UD’s Office of Human Resources and the State Office of Management and Budget invite staff to attend one of the following information sessions:

  • Thursday, Nov. 10, in Multipurpose Room A of the Trabant University Center, at 9 a.m., noon or 2 p.m.; or
  • Monday, Nov. 14, Multipurpose Room C of the Trabant University Center, at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. or 5 p.m.

Visit [www.udel.edu/hr/] to see the full schedule of sessions throughout the state, including those in Wilmington and at downstate campuses.

Questions about the disability benefit options may be directed to the Office of Pensions at (302) 739-4208 or 1-800-722-7300, or to the University’s Office of Human Resources by phoning (302) 831-2171 or by e-mail to [ben-serv@udel.edu].
