‘Dress Makes the Woman’ gala June 16

5:15 p.m., June 14, 2005--The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts (DCCA) will host a gala fund-raiser and preview from 6-9 p.m., Thursday, June 16, the day before the opening of its new exhibition, “The Dress Makes the Woman.”

The event will include presentations on the work of emerging fashion designers at UD, DCCA’s current visual residency project, participants from the Young Survivors in Action Program of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and portraits of Delaware breast cancer survivors.

Proceeds from the gala will benefit DCCA’s outreach programs, with a portion being donated to the Young Survivors in Action program of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and the nonprofit organization Shop Well with You. The event also honors National Cancer Survivors Day, which was celebrated June 5.

“The Dress Makes the Woman” exhibition examines identity and body image from a female perspective and investigates the meaning of dress and its social, cultural and psychological implications.

Tickets for the gala, "The Dress Makes the Woman...The Woman Makes the Dress," are $20 for students, $25 for DCCA members and $30 for others. For tickets, call (302) 656-6466. DCCA is located at 200 South Madison St. in the heart of the rejuvenated Wilmington Riverfront.
