New UD copyright policy effective July 1 2:57 p.m., June 24, 2005--UD has established the University of Delaware Policy for Copyright and Fair Use in Instruction. The new policy for using copyrighted works in instruction goes into effect July 1. The policy, which is available for download in PDF format at [http://www2.lib.udel.edu/subj/copyright/resguide/policy.pdf], allows faculty and staff to use copyrighted works if the intended use meets certain criteria. Derived from U.S. copyright law, the new policy specifies what constitutes fair use based on the character of its use, the nature of the work to be used, the amount of the work used and the effect the use could have on the market for the original. There will be links to the "University of Delaware Policy for Copyright and Fair Use in Instruction" from various other University sources as a part of the "University of Delaware Library Subject Guide: Resources for Copyright" posted at [http://www2.lib.udel.edu/subj/copyright/]. This subject guide is maintained by David Langenberg, associate librarian. Susan Brynteson. May Morris Director of Libraries, said the policy is viewed as a living document that will be amended and expanded over time. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
