UD’s 156th Commencement set May 28

Persons planning to attend Commencement are urged to arrive early, since there is a considerable amount of traffic congestion connected with this ceremony.

UD shuttle buses will provide one-way transportation to Delaware Stadium early Saturday morning. Click here for more information.

All individuals and items entering Delaware Stadium will be subject to search, and coolers, glass containers, umbrellas and large bags will not be permitted in Delaware Stadium.

Commencement coverage, including video of the ceremony, will be available late Saturday on UDaily and on the UD home page.

Novelist Jeff Shaara
2:01 p.m., May 25, 2005--The University of Delaware will hold its 156th Commencement beginning at 9 a.m., rain or shine, Saturday, May 28, at Delaware Stadium. In case of severe storm conditions, the free public ceremony will be shortened.

Commencement booklets with complete and important information, including a form for contributing to the Senior Class Gift, have been sent out to degree candidates and their families.

The Commencement speaker will be historical novelist Jeff Shaara, whose bestselling works have chronicled the American experience during the Revolutionary War, before and after the Civil War and during World War I. Shaara’s novels have been praised for their attention to factual details of the historical events and eras described, as well as for the development of emotional ties between the reader and the characters.

With the exception of special-interest ceremonies, including the Army and Air Force ROTC commissioning ceremonies on Friday, most college and departmental Convocation ceremonies will be held after Commencement on Saturday at different locations on campus.

Commencement ceremony videos also may be ordered from University Media Services using the form in the booklet.

For complete information on Commencement and Convocations, visit [www.udel.edu/commencement], e-mail [alumnet@udel.edu] or call 831-8741 or TDD 831-3369.
