UD state host for Oct. 27 White House videoconference

4:32 p.m., Oct. 20, 2005--UD has been selected as the state host for a White House videoconference on Helping America’s Youth slated for Thursday, Oct. 27.

The conference, which will be broadcast on campus cable channel 48 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, will include remarks by President George W. Bush, First Lady Laura Bush, cabinet secretaries and other government policymakers.

All campus cable outlets will receive the program, including all residence hall rooms and all TV outlets in the student centers. Room 311 in Pearson Hall also will be available for viewing the conference, which will originate from Howard University.

Additionally, UD will convert the high-speed web signal from Howard for local web streaming, thereby making web-based access of the conference available to associate in arts students at all UD campuses, as well as to students at DelTech and Delaware State University. The URL link to access the conference via the Internet is [www.udel.edu/ums/udlive/whitehouse-youth/].

The program will include an address by Bush on challenges facing America’s youth, as well as remarks from him on research-based solutions to those challenges. The conference also will inform viewers about a tool called the Community Assessment Guide and will focus on the important role families, schools and communities play in shaping America’s youth.
