Talk on climate change litigation set Oct. 20

10:34 a.m., Oct. 17, 2005--UD’s Legal Studies Program presents a lecture by Wil Burns, chairperson of international environmental policy at the Monterey Institute of International Studies and adjunct professor of law at Stanford Law School, from noon to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, in room 206 of the Trabant University Center.

Burns, whose talk will focus on international climate change litigation, has worked for more than 20 years in the nonprofit environmental sector, governmental sector and academia. He specializes in scientific, legal and political issues related to global warming and biodiversity, including the threats facing whales and other marine species.

Burns serves as editor-in-chief of the Journal of International Wildlife Law & Policy, co-chairperson of the International Environmental Law Group of the American Society of International Law, and chairperson of the wildlife committee of the American branch of the International Law Association.

He has edited two books on climate change and whaling issues and has authored more than 60 articles for both popular and academic publications. His opinion articles have appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, San Diego Union-Tribune and the Milwaukee Sentinel. Burns has published in such academic journals as the Georgetown International Environmental Law Review, the Review of European Community & International Environmental Law and Global Change.
