Pumpkin-carving contest set for Sunday

2:42 p.m., Oct. 24, 2005--Carve a pumpkin, win a prize and contribute toward the preservation of historic New Orleans buildings.

UD’s Art Conservation Club, made up of 50 undergraduate art conservation majors, will sponsor a pumpkin-carving contest on Sunday, Oct. 30.

Bring a precarved pumpkin to the steps of Old College by 5:30 p.m. Judging starts at 6 p.m., and at 6:30 p.m., judges will award small candy prizes and a grand prize of a gift certificate to a Main Street establishment.

Fran Ritchie, club president, said club members got the idea to fund-raise for historic preservation because alum Lenora Costa, AS ’05, lives near the French Quarter in New Orleans and reported on the needs there.

The contest is open to the public and the campus community. The entry fee is $3 per pumpkin. All proceeds will go to historic preservation in New Orleans.
