May 18 Global Agenda lecture canceled 2:05 p.m., May 9, 2005--A lecture by John Bolton, U.S. undersecretary of state for arms control and international security, which was scheduled for Wednesday, May 18, at UD has been canceled. The lecture would have been the final part of Prescription for the President: Policy Medicine for Global Challenges, a series of Global Agenda lectures, which are free and open to the public. The spring series ended Wednesday, May 4, with a lecture by Wendy Sherman, a former National Security Council and State Department adviser to former President Bill Clinton and then Secretary of State Madeline Albright. Boltons nomination by President George W. Bush to become U.S. ambassador to the United Nations sparked controversy over his official conduct in the past and, consequently, his suitability for the U.N. job. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee postponed a vote on the nomination until May 12. The Senate confirmation process for Deputy Secretary of State John Bolton to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations will not be complete by the scheduled date of his appearance at the University of Delaware. Therefore, Mr. Bolton has requested that we postpone his appearance to a future date, lecture series organizer Ralph Begleiter, UDs Rosenberg Professor of Communication and distinguished journalist in residence, said. For more information on the speakers and their subjects, visit [www.udel.edu/global]. For general information on the series, call the Department of Communication at (302) 831-8041.
