Campus blood drive slated for Tuesday 2 p.m., Sept. 8, 2005--In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, members of the UD community responded overwhelmingly by becoming donors in campus blood drives. This year, another potential blood-supply crisis exists as victims in the Gulf Coast area struggle to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. While the Blood Bank of Delmarva has not yet been asked to send any blood to the areas damaged by Hurricane Katrina, they are on stand-by. If asked, Blood Bank of Delmarva will need to have an adequate supply for both local hospitals and hurricane victims. To aid hurricane victims and meet local emergency blood needs, members of the UD community are asked to participate in the first blood drive of the academic year, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the Multipurpose Room of the Trabant University Center. No appointment is necessary. Walk-in donors are welcome at all times. To participate, donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and have had no tattoos or body piercings in the past 12 months. Donors also should remember to eat a good meal within three hours of donating. Sigma Chi and Alpha Phi are sponsoring the drive.
