South African HIV-AIDS Awareness Week, April 25-30

p.m., April 25, 2005--The Alpha Lambda Delta honor society’s Battle for Life (BFL) committee is sponsoring South African HIV-AIDS Awareness week Monday, April 25-Saturday, April 30.

BFL has held major fundraisers each spring and smaller
ones throughout the year since 2002, when their work in South African townships during a service learning study abroad trip brought home the reality of the HIV-AIDS epidemic there. Since 2002, the group has raised $17,973 for HIV-AIDS infected children in South Africa and children suffering from hunger in Central Africa.

BFL’s web site is [www.apossibleworld.org]. Weeklong events include:

  • Informational kiosks in the Trabant University Center all week;
  • A free outdoor concert at noon, Tuesday, April 26, on the Trabant University Center patio;
  • Fourth annual Battle for Life Concert, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 29, in the Trabant University Center Multipurpose Room, admission $5;
  • Second Annual Strides for the Future 5K on Saturday, April 30. Registration ($15 in advance, $20 day of the race) begins at 9 a.m.; the race is at 10 a.m.
