ELC celebrates ‘Lights on Afterschool’ Oct. 20

3:36 p.m., Oct. 18, 2005--UD’s Early Learning Center (ELC) will be one of more than 6,000 sites across the nation participating in the fourth annual “Lights on Afterschool” rally to help get the word out that quality after-school care is key to a child’s success.

“Lights on Afterschool” is a project of the Washington, D.C., based Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of after-school programs and promoting quality, affordable programs for all children.

The local celebration will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Early Learning Center on Wyoming Street in Newark.
Cookies, made by the children, and cider will be served.

There will be a brief ceremony at 5 p.m. with state Rep. Melanie George Marshall reading and presenting a proclamation to ELC endorsing “Lights on Afterschool” programs.

For more information, call (302) 831-6205 or visit [www.afterschoolalliance.org/lights_on/index.cfm].
