Employee Fitness Center initiates waiver

3:26 p.m., Sept. 13, 2005--In an effort to maintain its no-cost status to University employees while keeping user safety a priority and staffing costs stable, UD’s Employee Fitness Center is initiating a hold-harmless agreement.

The waiver, which must be signed beginning Thursday, Sept. 15, by all UD employees who wish to continue using the facility, advises employees that the center will be unsupervised at times and that users exercise at their own risk.

Suggestions to boost safety while exercising, such as using a buddy system or scheduling workouts during times when the center is likely to be populated, also are included in the waiver.

To ensure that all UD employees are informed of the new policy, an e-mail has been distributed to employees advising them to stop by the Carpenter Sports Building between 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 15, to present their UD ID cards and sign the waiver.

Employee Fitness Center hours of operation for the fall semester are Mondays-Fridays, 5 a.m.-9 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Sundays, noon-4 p.m.

Individuals who feel uncomfortable using a fitness facility that may be unsupervised at times may want to switch to a private, commercial fitness facility.
