Spaces remain for TraveLearn trip to Italy

Leaning Tower of Pisa
4:20 p.m., Feb. 3, 2005--In cooperation with TraveLearn, a nationwide educational tour network, the University of Delaware is hosting a special trip to Italy led by Peter Rees, associate professor of geography, from June 11-21.

"Italy--Yesterday and Today" is the theme of this 11-day tour through Milan, Stresa, Verona, Venice, Pisa, Florence, Siena and Rome. Trip highlights include the famous La Scala Opera House; the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, which houses Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper; the great glass-working center of Murano; the Leaning Tower of Pisa; Michelangelo's statue of David; the Roman Forums and Colosseum; and Vatican City, with its outstanding museums and famous Sistine Chapel.

Participants will see the canals of Venice from a gondola, the beauty of the Tuscan countryside, the history and grandeur of Rome and breathtaking cathedral architecture and art masterpieces throughout the trip.

Tour leader Rees has taught 19 different study abroad programs while at Delaware, as well as a number of adult study tours. In 1998, he was a travel lecturer for the American Geographical Society and in 2001 led a TraveLearn group from Delaware to China.

TraveLearn trips feature on-site lectures, seminars and field experiences provided by faculty escorts and in-country specialists, as well as people-to-people contact, to foster an understanding of the culture not available on more conventional tours.

The travel-study program to Italy features accommodations at first-class hotels, services of English-speaking nationals and local guides and all land transfers with assistance. Registration will be limited to 20 so that all participants receive individualized attention from tour leaders and can enjoy group camaraderie.

Cost is $2,995 per person (double occupancy, land only). For more information, including a detailed itinerary, contact Personal Interest and Studytrips at UD by calling (302) 831-3063, faxing (302) 831-4919, e-mailing [studytrips@udel.edu] or visiting [www.continuingstudies.udel.edu/culture/].
