Chinese poetry, art lecture set April 29
Titled The Scholarly Arts of China, the lecture will focus on the three perfections of poetry, painting and calligraphy in traditional Chinese civilization. Chaves, who has authored several books and articles on Chinese poetry, painting and calligraphy, will demonstrate in his slide-illustrated lecture how the three disciplines interrelate. He also will discuss the influence Chinese art has had on Japan. The free public lecture is part of the Universitys Distinguished Scholars Series and is sponsored by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
