Special events on Inuit culture set for October and November 11:45 a.m., Oct. 8, 2003--Land of Ice, Hearts of Fire: Inuit Art and Culture, a three-month exhibition of rare Canadian Inuit drawings continues through Sunday, Dec. 14, in the University Gallery, located on the second floor of Old College.
Canadian filmmaker John Houston, the son of pioneer Inuit art advocates, James and Alma Houston, will host a public screening and discussion of his films, Songs in Stone: An Arctic Journey Home and Nuliajuk: Mother of the Sea Beasts. He also will offer insight into the upcoming third installment in this documentary trilogy. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 7-10 p.m. 120 Smith Hall Free Inuit observations on climate change video Sila Alangotak: Inuit Observations on Climate Change, a 42-minute video from the International Institute for Sustainable Development will be shown continuously in observance of Earth Science Week. SundaySaturday, Oct. 1218 University Gallery Free Effects of freshwater flow from the Arctic on global climate Andreas Muenchow, associate professor of physical ocean science and engineering in the UD College of Marine Studies, will discuss how fresh water, from melting Arctic ice and rivers, affects the salinity and circulation of the ocean and thus has a major influence on the Earths climate.
