Stuart Semmel specializes in British history and European cultural history, from the eighteenth century to the present. He received his A.B. and his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He is the author of Napoleon and the British (Yale, 2004), and articles treating British culture and politics in the early nineteenth century. His current research projects consider early nineteenth-century British political argument and propaganda, and the twentieth-century organization Mass Observation.
