UD to demonstrate commitment to sustainability with events throughout the month
April is Earth Month, and the University of Delaware community will celebrate our planet and demonstrate UD’s commitment to sustainability with events throughout the month.
Celebrate Earth Day on The Green
Learn about climate work happening on campus and in our communities, and find about ways to get involved. There will be a clothing swap, ice cream and booths by campus and community groups.
When: Friday, April 24

Attend the Environmental Research Symposium
Hosted by the Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN) and the Ratcliffe Eco-Entrepreneurship Fellows program, this symposium will showcase the vast array of environmentally related work underway in arts, sciences, humanities, business and more across UD. This event is open to the public, beginning with an opening keynote before a poster walk and reception with dinner and drinks. Research posters and visuals will be displayed alongside submissions from Environmental Everywhere, a visual arts competition featuring works exploring environmental systems, landscapes, climate and human relationships to the natural world.
When: Wednesday, April 15, 6-8:30 p.m.

Participate in a visual arts competition
The Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN) invites artists to submit two-dimensional, environmentally based artwork for its juried art contest exploring environmental systems, landscapes, climate and human relationships to the natural world. Any 2D medium is accepted.
When: Submissions are due April 7. A selection of entries will be displayed at the Environmental Research Symposium on Wednesday, April 15.

Attend UD’s annual Ag Day
Ag Day is a decades-old University of Delaware tradition, drawing thousands to the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources each April. Community members enjoy more than 90 attractions, demonstrations, exhibits and educational activities designed to showcase the wide world of agriculture and natural resources. Ag Day includes live performances, plant sales, a diverse food court and a range of experiences for every age.
When: Saturday, April 25
Where: Townsend Hall, 531 South College Avenue, Newark
Learn at a local politics panel
Hear about the state of environmental policy from local legislators and politicians.
When: Thursday, April 2, 7 p.m.
Where: Trabant Theater.

Watch a documentary about the ocean
Join filmmaker Ben Judkins to explore a community-facing documentary screening of "The Cigarette Surfboard,” a 90-minute film takes viewers around the world — via a surfboard built from 10,000 littered cigarette butts — to learn about the ocean’s importance and the inspiring work of a cast of professional surfers to protect it. The film screening is free and open to the public.
When: Friday, April 3. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a reception preceding the screening.
Where: Cannon Laboratory Multipurpose Room on UD’s Lewes campus.

Join Master Gardeners for a workshop
Garden workshops and events are held regularly throughout the year and in each county — including four this April. Learn about things like growing your own berries, how to understand soil health, and which plants are native to your home. Master Gardener volunteers provide hands-on instruction to help even beginning gardeners make the best of their gardens.
When: 1 p.m. at the Paradee Center, 69 Transportation Circle, Dover, DE on April 13. View other dates and times.

Celebrate at an Earth Day gala
Students are invited to attend the 2nd annual Earth Day Gala, hosted by Student Diversity and Inclusion.
