Recognition for academic value, scholarly impact

ON THE GREEN | Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine's newest list of the 100 best values in public colleges includes UD. The list, announced in the February issue, highlights "four-year institutions that deliver a quality education at an affordable price."

The University, which ranks 25th, was selected from a pool of more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities. Kiplinger's ranks universities by assessing their quality of education and their costs. The rankings were revamped this year to give more weight to academic value.

Some other East Coast institutions on the list are the University of Pittsburgh (ranked 29th), University of Connecticut (30th), Penn State (51st), Rutgers (43rd) and the University of Massachusetts Amherst (70th).

In another recent report, UD is listed among the top universities in the world, based on the production and impact of scientific papers.

The 2011 Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities, released by National Taiwan University, is based on statistics of scientific papers that reflect three major performance criteria: research productivity, research impact and research excellence. In the rankings of the world's top 300 universities by fields, UD is listed at 192 in agriculture and environment sciences; 141 in engineering, computing and technology; 184 in natural sciences; and 266 in social sciences.
