Professor Jim Soles was one of my first professors at Delaware. I was a freshman in his "Intro to Political Science" class, along with several hundred other young men and woman. He entertained us with his stories, he taught us with his lessons from life and history, and he inspired us with his dedication to the United States, the Constitution and democracy. During my sophomore year, I was among a handful of other students who, with Dr. Soles, came up with the idea of a living and learning experience, "like the French and German students had at the time." Within a matter of months, I was one of the first students living in the first Political Science House on campus, part of a unique, coed living/learning experience. That was in the spring of 1971. Dr. Soles gave of himself 200percent in those days, and continued to do so for years to come. I am grateful to have known him, and consider myself blessed to have remained his friend for more than 40 years.
