Membership applications are available in the club mailboxes in the Fred Rust Ice Arena hallway. Skaters are required to be members of the USFS in order to test and compete in USFS events. Membership in the USFS is included in the UDFSC membership fee as well as a subscription to USFS's Skating magazine, reduced fees for club sponsored ice, test sessions, and a subscription to our club newsletter. A regular UDFSC membership costs $100 and is renewable every July. Additional memberships within the same family cost $55 each. Associate memberships costing $60 are available for those skaters wishing to represent their home club while training, testing, or performing on a synchro team at the University of Delaware. Once memberships are processed, an official USFS membership card and UDFSC letter of permission are mailed. Please file your letter in a safe place as copies are required to accompany non-qualifying competition applications and to test or participate in a USFS sanctioned show or exhibition at another club. Membership questions may be directed to the Membership Chair or to the club phone on (302) 831-4686.
The UDFSC offers club-sponsored ice at the University of Delaware Fred Rust Ice Arena for club members on Sunday evenings (except holidays) as follows:
Club ice is offered at the Pond location; see times in our recent newsletter. There are several payment options. Please see the information posted on the Fred Rust Ice Arena Club Bulletin Board or call (302) 831-4686.
Test sessions are arranged by the UDFSC in conjunction with the Ice Skating Science Development Center. Test dates are posted well in advance on the bulletin board in the Rust Arena, in newsletters, and on our web page. One week before the test date, a detailed schedule is posted on the Fred Rust Ice Arena Club Bulletin Board. The UDFSC arranges for judges for test sessions and reports test results to the USFS. Test applications are available in the club mailbox area in the Fred Rust Ice Arena or on the web. Please note test application deadlines -- they are not negotiable. Put completed test applications, and accompanying checks, in the black lockbox above the club mailboxes in the Fred Rust Ice Arena.
Many of our skaters enjoy participating in competitions. There are many shows and invitational events on the East Coast throughout the year. Watch the club newsletter, club bulletin board, and Skating magazine for a list of upcoming competitions and application deadlines. Blank application forms are usually available at the Fred Rust Ice Arena reception desk for a nominal fee. If needed, use your club letter of permission to apply for shows, invitational and non-qualifying competitions. Qualifying competitions for our members are Regionals, Sectionals and, of course, Nationals. Applications for qualifying competitions must be signed by a club officer. Place completed, qualifying competition applications in the club mailbox labeled "Place here to be signed." Complete your name, event, and coach's signature before turning it in. Within 24 hours, your application will be signed and placed in the mailbox labeled "Signed."
Our newsletter keeps you informed of club activities, such as test schedules, upcoming qualifying events, results, club ice, as well as other pertinent information. You automatically receive this newsletter as a UDFSC member. Newsletters are posted on the web.
Please be sure we have your current address to ensure that you receive UDFSC newsletters and membership information. To change your address, put a note in the club lockbox in the Fred Rust Ice Arena, send e-mail to ud-fsc@udel.edu, or fax us at (302) 831-2812.
The UDFSC is your liaison to the USFS. We report your test results and sanction events, as required, in which you may skate. The UDFSC sends representatives to the annual USFS Governing Council meeting to vote on rule changes and skating policy.
General members are invited to our monthly board meetings, which are posted in the club newsletter. Board meetings are usually held on the third Sunday of the month in the Fred Rust Ice Arena VIP Lounge.
