ISE Lab was constructed following the standards of the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Silver designation.
The 21st Century workforce demands innovative thinkers. Classes held in the building educate our students using problem-based teaching methods. Presented with a problem, students learn how to solve it through hands-on investigation.
ISE Lab's classrooms include the latest in educational technology, tools that enhance students' capabilities and experience. Mobile furniture allows for flexibility of seating arrangements to suit group or individual work.
Advanced laboratory spaces include: an imaging and microscopy suite, a nanofabrication facility, a synthesis lab and an advanced materials characterization lab. Lab space will be available for use by UD researchers, students and industry partners.
Three of UD's distinguished research centers: the University of Delaware Energy Institute, the Delaware Environmental Institute and the Catalysis Center for Energy Innovation will call ISE Lab home.
The University of Delaware's Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory (ISE Lab) will be a hub of teaching and research on campus. The 194,000-square-foot facility brings together students and faculty from various disciplines to teach, learn and conduct research in a collaborative environment. Research will provide content for the curriculum and students will learn through exploration of real-world problems.
Scheduled for completion in 2013, ISE Lab will engage students and stimulate excitement about science and engineering.
Inside you will not find large lecture halls. No classroom holds more than 48 students. ISE Lab's four problem-based learning instructional laboratories feature lab spaces adjoining classrooms so students can discuss a problem and then immediately test a solution. UD faculty are designing curricula to optimally utilize these rooms.
The building's eight general instruction classrooms all include the latest in educational technology and mobile furniture, allowing for flexibility of seating arrangements to suit group or individual work.
The research wing will house core facilities for teams of researchers, including:
It will also be the new home of the University of Delaware Energy Institute, the Delaware Environmental Institute, and the Catalysis Center for Energy Innovation.
