Welcome to the Philosophy Department
at the University of Delaware

The UD Department of Philosophy has expertise and active scholarship across the core areas of philosophy. We offer an undergraduate major and minor in philosophy as well as a minor in religious studies. We are also part of the Cognitive Science Program, which offers an MA in Linguistics and Cognitive Science, and are active in the Interdisciplinary Ethics Program. The department is committed to service in the university, in the profession, and in the community.

Samuel Scheffler. 'Why Worry About Future Generations?'

The Spring Norton Lecture will be presented by Samuel Scheffler (B.A., Harvard; Ph.D., Princeton), who works mainly in the areas of moral and political philosophy. His numerous publications include five books: The Rejection of Consequentialism (1982, rev. ed. 1994), Human Morality (1992), Boundaries and Allegiances (2001), Equality and Tradition (2010), and Death and the Afterlife (Ed. Niko Kolodny, 2013), all published by Oxford University Press. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and has been a recipient of Guggenheim and NEH Fellowships. He serves as an Advisory Editor of Philosophy and Public Affairs, and has been a Visiting Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford
