UD Bookstore sets software sales pace

Jennifer Galt, manager of the UD Bookstore
10:14 a.m., April 15, 2005--For the second year in a row, the University Bookstore sold more software online than any other Barnes & Noble college store in the country. The store sold 1,552 pieces of software between May and February.

“The school in second place was Louisiana State University. They sold 755 pieces,’’ Jennifer Galt, the bookstore manager, said.

Student buyers use an easy online link to purchase software at prices up to 80 percent lower than list. For instance, the Bookstore’s web site offers students Microsoft Office 2004 for Macs for $79.98, substantially less than the steeply discounted educator’s price of $149.98.

Galt said sales to freshmen spiked because of DelaWorld promotion and the sales staff’s efforts to tell students about the deep discounts. She said she hopes to be able to extend the discounts to faculty and staff by summer and to make it even easier to buy online.
