Make a summer splash at the Outdoor Pool

5:01 p.m., April 14, 2005--Like to swim, relax and sit by the water, but don’t like the traffic and the crowds at the beach? There is an alternative--membership in UD’s Outdoor Pool. Perennial hot-ticket items, family and individual memberships have sold out before midseason during the last three summers.

The 2005 season runs from May 29-Aug. 29, plus Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-5. Beginning May 2, membership applications will be accepted from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Friday, at the Fred Rust Ice Arena.

Renewal information for 2004 Outdoor Pool members was mailed in early April. New members also will be able to register online at [www.udel.edu/outdoorpool/].

The UD Outdoor Pool, the largest in the state, is located behind the Gold Ice Arena and features new slides and a new pool heater to keep the water temperature comfortable during the early swimming season.

Amenities include shower and changing facilities, a 6-inch-deep baby pool, a snack bar with some new menu options including small salads, cups of fruit and yogurt, and a deck complete with chaise lounge furniture. Lessons are available to members on a first-come, first-served basis.

Special events for members include free guest weekends (new this year), annual members’ picnic and Pool Appreciation Day.

University employees who wish to may pay their pool membership through payroll deductions. Call (302) 831-6038 to request the necessary form.

For more information, call (302) 831-2868 or visit [www.udel.edu/outdoorpool/].
