UD skaters second in national event

4:24 p.m., April 13, 2005--The University of Delaware finished second in the 2005 U.S. Intercollegiate Figure Skating Team Championships, held April 9-10 at the Goggin Ice Arena in Miami, Ohio.

Dartmouth College won the team title with 109 points, followed by UD with 59 points and host Miami University with 58.5 points. The University of California Berkeley finished fourth with 40 points, Boston University fifth with 34 points, Indiana University sixth with 32 points, Michigan State University seventh with 20 points, San Jose State University eighth with 7.5 points and the California Institute of Technology ninth with 7 points.

The three highlight events of Sunday morning's competition were the low, intermediate and high team maneuvers, all three of which were won by Dartmouth.

In the low team maneuvers, Miami and San Jose State tied for second and Indiana and UD rounded out the top five. Behind Dartmouth in the intermediate event were UD, Boston University, Michigan State and Miami, and in the high team event, Dartmouth led Miami, California, UD and Michigan State.

In individual events, UD’s Kelsey Davidson finished second in the gold solo dance, and Ashley Crane finished second and Brittany Young seventh in the intermediate ladies free skate. Jessie Grant finished fourth and Kaitlin Kellogg fifth in their group in the intermediate ladies short program, and Crane won in her group.

UD’s Laura Stefanik won the junior ladies free skate, and Megan Burger finished seventh. Stefanik also won the junior ladies short program, and Shira Selis finished seventh. Meghan Reeves finished second in the junior solo dance.

In the novice ladies free skate, UD’s Brenda Greene finished seventh and Grant eighth, and in the novice ladies short program Katie Royce finished fourth and Brenda Greene fifth. Andrea Stein finished 10th in the novice solo dance.

In the pre-intermediate solo dance, Stefanik finished second in her group and Greene finished fifth in her group.

Adrianna Ragazzo won her group in pre-intermediate ladies free skating, with Carolyn Hersh finishing in fourth. Stein finished fifth in her group.

Jamie Edmonds finished 10th in pre-intermediate B solo dance. In pre-intermediate C free skating, Reeves finished second, Edmonds fifth and Rebecca Shappell 12th.

UD had three of the top finishers in senior ladies free skating, with Kelsey Davidson in fifth, Kandis Kovalsky in ninth and Kaitlyn DeRoy in 10th. Kovalsky finished seventh and DeRoy 13th in the senior ladies short program.

In senior solo dance, Reeves finished fourth and Ragazzo finished sixth.
