UD skater Stefanik featured by USFSA

Laura Stefanik
12:51 p.m., April 13, 2005--The United States Figure Skating Association web site features a short profile of University of Delaware freshman Laura Stefanik on its home page as part of a series on gold medalists from the 2004 Futures Champion Series.

Stefanik, who won first place in the novice ladies competition in the Futures Champion series Eastern regional competition, said her goal “is to stay healthy and continue skating for as long as I can.”

She added, “I am also looking forward to competing for the University of Delaware Collegiate Figure Skating Team for the next four years.”

In addition to figure skating, the Johnstown, Pa., native is active in swimming and earned four varsity letters on her high school swimming team and competed in Pennsylvania state championships in high school and for the YMCA. She said she enjoys running, shopping, reading and “hanging out with friends.”

Stefanik’s favorite skaters are Michelle Kwan and Brian Joubert, and her greatest influences are her parents “because of their encouragement and support through everything I've done.”

The USFSA web site is at [www.usfsa.org].
