New assignments

Jennifer Becnel-Guzzo has been named associate vice president and deputy general counsel at the University of Delaware, effective Nov. 19.

Becnel-Guzzo joined UD in 2013 as associate general counsel. She succeeds Laure Ergin, who was appointed vice president and general counsel on Nov. 18.

Before coming to UD, Becnel-Guzzo spent nine years in the Wilmington, Delaware, offices of two national law firms representing commercial entities, charter schools and higher education institutions in all of the Delaware courts.

Previously, she served as a law clerk to the Honorable William L. Witham Jr. in the Delaware Superior Court. She is admitted to the bars of the state of Delaware, the District of Delaware and the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals.

Becnel-Guzzo earned her bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Vanderbilt University and her law degree from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University.

Honors

The IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) recently named UD senior Haley Northrup the John W. Estey PES Scholar in the Mid-Atlantic for 2015-16. Recipients of the award are deemed by IEEE to be “high-achieving undergraduate students in electrical engineering programs who have committed to exploring the power and energy engineering field through both coursework and career experiences.”

Northrup, a senior studying electrical and computer engineering, is advised at UD by Willett Kempton, professor in the School of Marine Science and Policy in UD’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment and research director of the University’s Center for Carbon-Free Power Integration. Kempton also has appointments as professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the School of Public Policy and Administration.

As part of Kempton’s Vehicle-to-Grid research group, Northrup documented wiring in the V2G designed Charging Station for assembly and programming a microprocessor for bidirectional metering in the charging station.

Northrup also received a scholarship from IEEE Power and Energy Society’s Scholarship Plus Initiative, which provides “scholarships and real world experience to undergraduates who are interested in power and energy engineering careers.

Media
