Fall family alumni activities include tours, seasonal adventures

10:45 a.m., Sept. 26, 2014--University of Delaware alumni are invited to a variety of fall family events, including cultural tours and seasonal adventures.

Blue Hens can participate in a Family Pumpkin Patch Adventure hosted by the Washington, D.C., alumni on Oct. 11 at Butler’s Orchard in Germantown, Maryland.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

That same day, alumni in Pittsburgh are invited to attend a guided tour of the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden and alumni in New York City can join a tour of the New York City Fire Museum.

On Oct. 25, alumni in Reading, Pennsylvania, will offer a fall hayride and s'mores roast while those in Lancaster will offer a trip to the Hershey Pumpkin Glow.

Thursday, Oct. 2, 6:15 p.m.: Northern New Jersey happy hour. Alumni will gather for the annual Blue Hens happy hour at Teak on the Hudson in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Tuesday, Oct. 7, 5 p.m.: Philadelphia Welcome to the Neighborhood. Alumni in Philadelphia will welcome the Class of 2014 during a happy hour at the Misconduct Tavern on Locust Street.

Thursday, Oct. 9, 5:30 p.m.: Art history lecture. Kellie Jones, associate professor of art history at Columbia University, will present the Wayne Craven Lecture in Purnell Hall. She will speak on the topic “Crisscrossing the World: Los Angeles Artists and the Global Imagination, 1960-1980.”

Friday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m.: Warner Hall centennial. Blue Hens are invited to attend a Warner Hall centennial celebration as the residence hall turns 100.

Saturday, Oct. 11, 10 a.m.: DC Pumpkin Patch Adventure. Alumni are invited to a Family Pumpkin Patch Adventure at Butler’s Orchard in Germantown, Maryland. Those who attend can pick pumpkins, tackle the corn maze, play in a hayloft and enjoy harvest treats.

Saturday, Oct. 11, 10 a.m.: Food Bank of Delaware. The New Castle County Alumni Club invites Blue Hens to lend a hand at the Food Bank of Delaware in Newark.

Saturday, Oct. 11, noon: NYC Fire Museum tour. Alumni can tour the New York City Fire Museum, a moving and fascinating tribute to the New York Fire Department.

Saturday, Oct. 11, 10:30 a.m.: Pittsburgh’s Phipps Conservatory. The Pittsburgh Alumni Club will present a guided tour of the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden.

Sunday, Oct. 12, 10:30 a.m.: Beach clean up. Kent and Sussex alumni invited Blue Hens to join in the semi-annual beach cleanup and happy hour. The cleanup will be held at the Delaware Seashore State Park just south of Dewey Beach.

Friday, Oct. 17: Homecoming Weekend. UD’s Homecoming Weekend will begin on Friday, with a wide range of event including reunions, tailgate gatherings, a 5K run and walk, exhibits, awards and the all-alumni Goalpost Party.

Saturday, Oct. 18, 8 a.m.: Lehigh Valley Homecoming road trip. UD alumni in the Lehigh Valley are invited to return to the roost for Homecoming.

Saturday, Oct. 18, 6 p.m.: Boston post-regatta happy hour. The Boston Alumni Club will host a happy hour following the first day of racing at the 50th Head of the Charles Regatta at Tavern in the Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Thursday, Oct. 23, 6 p.m.: Operations management alumni. The fifth annual Operations Management Alumni-Senior Connections Dinner will be held in Alfred Lerner Hall.

Saturday, Oct. 25, 5 p.m.: Reading hayride. Alumni in the Reading, Pennsylvania, area are invited to attend a fall hayride and s’mores roast at Weaver’s Orchard in Morgantown.

Saturday, Oct. 25, 6 p.m.: Hershey Pumpkin Glow. Lancaster, Pennsylvania, alumni will host a trip to the Hershey Pumpkin Glow, which features hundreds of uniquely carved illuminated pumpkins along the garden path at Hershey Gardens.

Wednesday, Oct. 29, 5:30 p.m.: Art history lecture. Alumni are invited to attend an art history lecture by Jacquelyn Serwer, chief curator, Smithsonian Institution National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Saturday, Nov. 15, 8:30 a.m.-noon: Philabundance ‘Battle of the Blue.’ UD alumni will challenge Villanova University in a “Battle of the Blue” food sorting contest at Philabundance.
