UD alumni invited to season activities, lectures, cooking class

9:46 a.m., Oct. 17, 2014--A rich array of activities are available to University of Delaware alumni this fall, including such seasonal favorites as hayrides and pumpkin patch adventures.

Also on the calendar are an art history lecture, a symposium on World War I, and a cooking class in Rehoboth Beach.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

Information on these and other fall activities follows:

Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17 and 18: Homecoming Weekend. The 2014 UD Homecoming features reunions, special events, a 5K run and walk, exhibits, awards ceremonies and the Colonial Athletic Association football game between the Blue Hens and rival Towson University.

Wednesday, Oct. 22, 6:30 p.m.: DC Oktoberfest. Washington area alumni are invited to an Oktoberfest happy hour at Liberty Tavern.

Thursday, Oct. 23, 6 p.m.: Operations management alumni. The fifth annual Operations Management Alumni-Senior Connections Dinner will be held in Alfred Lerner Hall.

Saturday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m.: Washington pumpkin patch adventure. Alumni in the Washington, D.C., area are invited to a pumpkin patch adventure at Butler’s Orchard on Davis Mill Road in Germantown, Maryland. Participants can pick pumpkins, walk through a corn maze, play in a hayloft and enjoy harvest treats.

Saturday, Oct. 25, noon: Richmond watch party. Blue Hens in the Richmond, Virginia, area are invited to join a football watch party at Glory Days Grill in the Gleneagles Center as UD takes on the College of William and Mary in Colonial Athletic Association action.

Saturday, Oct. 25, 5 p.m.: Reading hayride. Alumni in the Reading, Pennsylvania, area are invited to attend a fall hayride and s’mores roast at Weaver’s Orchard in Morgantown.

Saturday, Oct. 25, 6 p.m.: Hershey Pumpkin Glow. Lancaster, Pennsylvania, alumni will host a trip to the Hershey Pumpkin Glow, which features hundreds of uniquely carved illuminated pumpkins along the garden path at Hershey Gardens.

Wednesday, Oct. 29, 5:30 p.m.: Chicago happy hour. Chicago area Blue Hens will gather for happy hour at Cantina Laredo.

Wednesday, Oct. 29, 5:30 p.m.: Art history lecture. Alumni are invited to attend an art history lecture by Jacquelyn Serwer, chief curator, Smithsonian Institution National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Saturday, Nov. 1, 8:45 a.m.-5 p.m.: Saturday Symposium, “Remembering the Great War.” Alumni are invited to a Saturday Symposium presentation titled “Remembering the Great War” at Memorial Hall, Morris Library and the Old College Gallery.

Thursday, Nov. 6, 5:30 p.m.: California happy hour. A Day of the Dead “Hen” happy hour and interest meeting will be held at El Agave Tequileria in Del Mar, California.

Thursday, Nov. 6, 5:30 p.m.: New Castle County happy hour. Alumni are invited to a New Castle County Alumni Club happy hour at Two Stones Pub Naamans.

Thursday, Nov. 6, 6 p.m.: South Florida happy hour. South Florida alumni will hold an interest meeting and happy hour at Fado Irish Pub in Miami.

Thursday, Nov. 6, 8-10 p.m.: New York City “night owl” bowling. Blue Hens will gather for “night owl” bowling at Frames Bowling Lounge above the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York’s Midtown.

Saturday, Nov. 8, 10 a.m.: Kent and Sussex cooking class. Alumni are invited to a Kent and Sussex cooking class at the Big Fish Grill in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Sunday, Nov. 9, 10 a.m.: Pittsburgh brunch. Alumni in the Pittsburgh area are invited to brunch at the Grand Concourse.
