UD Library staff members elected to American Library Association division posts

10:59 a.m., July 5, 2013--Two University of Delaware Library staff members, Megan Gaffney and Deborah Ryszka, have been elected to positions in American Library Association (ALA) divisions.

Gaffney, associate librarian in the Access Services Department, was elected member-at-large on the Reference and User Services Association Sharing and Transforming Access to Resources Section (RUSA STARS), a division of the ALA, for a three-year term, 2013-16. She took office at the ALA Annual Conference in June 2013 in Chicago.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

RUSA STARS is comprised of professional librarians and practitioners interested in resource sharing and interlibrary loan.

STARS is active in developing national standards for resource sharing; conducting research projects to understand and improve interlibrary loan current practices, staffing models, and more; and offering continuing education and training opportunities related to resource sharing.

Ryszka, associate librarian in the Metadata Services Department, was elected secretary of the Cataloging and Metadata Management Section of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS), a division of the ALA, for a three-year term, beginning in June 2013.  She took office at the ALA Annual Conference in June in Chicago.

ALCTS, an association comprised of nearly 4,000 members from across the United States and around the world, is the premier professional organization for librarians and information specialists in library collection development, preservation and technical services. ALCTS serves as a leader in the development of principles, standards and best practices for creating, collecting, organizing, delivering and preserving information resources in all types of forms.
